ABOUT THE ARTIST

Bonita Waesche, a native of New Orleans, has been interested in photography since her first trip to Europe in 1976. She studied photography at Tulane and attended workshops with Tony Corbell and NAPP. Motherhood taught her to look deeply into the eyes of children to see their innocence shine through. Her passion for portraits grew with her children as she tried to capture moments in time. With the evolution of digital photography, she found that her images came alive and were almost three dimensional. Having traveled to many parts of the world, she always claimed that the Lake Pontchartrain sunrises and sunsets were indeed some of the most beautiful. Using professional Canon equipment, she follows the sunrises and sunsets.

Photography always took second place to her 25year career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Katrina caused her to look at life differently, to slow the pace, to spend more time with her children, and to capture the beauty all around her.

The embrace of her flowers demand attention.

The Lacombe Art Exhibit 2006 was her first art show. All three of her entries were awarded prizes, the only participant so honored. One of her sunsets won the prestigious St. Tammany Parish Purchase Award and is displayed in one of the parish’s public buildings. The Slidell Arts Evening 2006 awarded her dahlia Honorable Mention. Financial Advisor Magazine, a national publication, featured her photo as their October 2006 cover. Bonita participated in the juried Covington 3 Rivers Art Festival 2006 and 2007. Inside Northside Magazine featured her dahlia as their cover with Bonita as the coveted artist of the month for March/April 2007. One of her sunsets won Honorable Mention at the Gulf Bank 2007 art competition. Her insightful black and white portrait of her father took Best in Show at the Visions 2008 show, 1st Place for Photography at the Bayou Lacombe Art Center 2008 show (juried by John Bullard, curator of NOMA) and 2nd place in the SBAG 2008 Fall Show. Her Commuter’s Sunrise graced the cover of the LA. State Bar Assoc. Journal for Nov. 2008. The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kenner, LA, features her images in all of the guest rooms.

She offers large print images on professional photographic paper/fine art paper as well as fine art canvas. The depth of canvas creates a tremendously realistic image.

Bonita lives in Mandeville with her husband Randy and their 3 daughters. Locally, her images can be seen at Artistic Framing in Covington, Juniper Restaurant in Mandeville, Agape Gallery in Slidell and in the collections of St Tammany Parish, St Tammany School Board and Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation.
